Our research area is cell biology of virus pathogenesis. We focus on the intricate set of interactions between the human pathogen herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) and its host that allow the virus to penetrate and initiate infection. We aim to understand how HSV-1 can overcome mechanical skin barriers during invasion, and which molecular factors determine the cellular entry process.
